The validity of the Umrah visa is often misunderstood. Many travellers assume that the 90 days apply to each individual trip or that the visa validity begins on the day of departure. Neither assumption is the right starting point for planning. According to official Saudi information, the Saudi tourist eVisa is generally described as a multiple-entry visa valid for one year. The total stay is limited to up to 90 days. The eVisa may be used for Umrah, but not for Hajj. The information shown on your issued visa and the official rules in force at the time of travel always take precedence.

Short answer

How long is the Umrah eVisa valid? Learn what 365 days of validity, multiple entry and a total stay of up to 90 days mean.

The three key facts at a glance

  • Validity period: generally 365 days, or one year, from the date of issue.
  • Entries: multiple entries are generally possible during the validity period.
  • Stay: up to 90 days in total within the relevant validity period.

Official Saudi information describes the tourist eVisa as a one-year multiple-entry visa allowing up to 90 days of stay in Saudi Arabia. Official information about visas and tourism

Validity begins on the date of issue

The validity period generally begins on the date the visa is issued, not on the planned travel date. If you apply for the visa very early, the remaining usable period may therefore be shorter by the time you travel.

You should therefore plan your application in line with your intended travel period. Applying early may be useful, but an unnecessarily long gap between issuance and travel is not always advantageous.

You can find the complete application procedure in the article Applying for an Umrah Visa: Step by Step.

What does the 90-day rule mean?

The 90 days should be understood as the maximum total stay allowance for the relevant validity period. You should therefore not automatically assume that another 90 days becomes available with every individual entry.

For example, if you spend 20 days in Saudi Arabia during your first trip, you should plan on having only the remaining allowance available for further trips during the validity period. Always check the specific information on your visa and the current official conditions.

Example

  • First trip: 20 days of stay.
  • Remaining allowance in this example: 70 days.
  • Further stays must comply with the applicable visa conditions.

Multiple entry with one visa

A multiple-entry visa can be practical if you plan to travel to Saudi Arabia more than once during its validity period. However, every entry and every stay must comply with the conditions of the issued visa.

Before planning several trips, pay particular attention to:

  • the visa issue date,
  • the expiry date or end of the validity period,
  • the number of stay days already used,
  • the number of additional stay days planned,
  • any seasonal restrictions that apply.

Umrah permit through Nusuk

The visa allows you to enter Saudi Arabia. To perform Umrah, you also need the required Umrah permit in force at the relevant time.

According to information from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the permit is applied for through Nusuk. You log in, select the Umrah permit booking service, choose an available date and issue the permit.

The visa service described here does not require an additional Umrah service package including a hotel or transport. The Nusuk app or official Nusuk platform is needed for the permit; it is not an additional package provider.

You can find the official steps on the website of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah: Apply for an Umrah Permit.

Observe the Hajj season

Although the visa may continue to be relevant as an entry visa during certain periods, special restrictions apply to performing Umrah during the Hajj season.

Umrah travellers should therefore check not only the visa validity but also whether their intended period is approved for performing Umrah. Seasonal rules may change.

Before travelling, check the latest information from the German Federal Foreign Office and the German mission abroad as well as the official Saudi information.

Passport and entry requirements

Visa validity alone is not sufficient. Your travel document must also meet the entry requirements.

The German Federal Foreign Office states that travel documents must still be valid for at least six months at the time of entry or when applying for the visa. German citizens require a visa to enter Saudi Arabia.
